FROM THE FAWCETT SOCIETY
Every 34 minutes a rape is reported to the police in the United Kingdom. Thousands more victims do not come forward. Yet three-quarters of local authorities have no services for rape victims, and only one in twenty rapes reported to the police leads to a conviction. This failure to bring rapists to justice amounts to a near licence to rape.Women are being failed by the criminal justice system, and left with nowhere to turn for support. We are launching a campaign today for justice for rape victims. Your voice adds power to our campaign, so please take one of these supporter actions:
Two minute action – sign our open letter to Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary
30 minute action – write to your MP and ask them to support our campaign
Two hour action – go and see your MP and find out what they are doing for rape victims
