Edinburgh Feminist Network – or EFN emerged out of the organisation of a Reclaim the Night March in 2007, campainging against men’s violence against women. It has eveolved and changed in ma ny ways depending on the attitude, political veiws, and time commitments of its members – at one time opertating with a close knit collective with shared goals.
At the moment EFN is a more fluid organisation – its main activity is hosting open discussion space, in the form of a monthy discussion group, and maintaining a email discussion list.
At the moment the discussion group is women only, trans freindly, accessible, with children welcome. All veiwpoints on the issues discussed are welcomed, and disagreement and discussion is veiwed as healthy :- in the context of a safe and respectful space.
There are a number of feminist, gender and women’s movement groups emerging in Edinburgh, and EFN gives out information about them, and how people can get involved, and sometimes have overlapping members: these include Ladyfest Edinburgh, an IT project, and a Feminist Friday based challenging pornography group.
If your interested, want to come along, or have any questions please do ask, all newcomers are warmly welcomed. Theres usually tea and cake at meetings!

Hello Edinburgh Feminists,
I wonder if you can help me.
I’m working on a new BBC documentary series all about the British at work and I’m trying to get in touch with women who suffered from sexual discrimination, harrassment or other forms of sexism in the workplace during the 1960s and 1970s.
If you know of anyone who might be willing to share their stories with me, please do let me know,
Best wishes,
Alice

Dear feminists of Edinburgh,
I would like to post the information for a show that I think would be of interest to the members of the Edinburgh Feminist Network.
The Big Smoke is a one woman play being performed at the Edinburgh Fringe 2010.
The roots of this play have come from several sources. Initially I was inspired by several woman in my life who lost their children. I wanted to write a piece of theatre that represented strong, tragic female characters. The demands women face, our role in society, the pressure to fit. I was further inspired by the works of the confessional poets Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton as well as Virginia wolf. What has developed is a piece that f. It’s the story of a tormented woman whose search for identity becomes a descent into madness.
For any woman who has struggled herself, or who has someone in her life who is battling to find her way I would very much appreciate you coming to see this piece and telling me your thoughts.
The Big Smoke @ Pleasance Jack Dome, 4th-30thAugust, 2.20PM (excluding Tuesdays 17th&24th)
Multi-Award winning Theatre Ad Infinitum presents one woman’s poetic waltz with death inspired by the lives and works of Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, and Anne Sexton
The Big Smoke One woman uses the rich nuances of her unique voice, a completely original score sung a cappella, and a distilled approach to physical performance, that leads an audience into the controversial territory of suicide. Lecoq-trained Ad Infinitum brings to life a courageous, remorseless experience that walks you down the fine line between sanity and psychosis.
